Substantive interviews with top celebrity chefs and entertaining culinary personalities are part of the weekly fun.
Jet Tila is a nationally celebrated chef specializing in all styles of Asian cuisine. As a boy, he spent time learning the ancient traditions of classical Asian cuisine in his family’s restaurants and at the Bangkok Market, the legendary purveyor of exotic Asian ingredients in Hollywood. Jet’s Le Cordon Bleu education coupled with his extensive knowledge of Asian gastronomy has given him a wide range of ideas to draw upon to create incomparable and innovative cuisine
In 2008, Jet unveiled his creation, the spectacular Pan-Asian restaurant Wazuzu at Steve Wynn’s Encore luxury resort in Las Vegas and the accolades have been rolling in ever since. Jet was on the multi-million dollar project some six months before opening and designed the kitchen in addition to hiring the staff and creating the menu. In 2009, Wazuzu was named to Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List Tables. (He departed Wazuzu in early 2012 to return to Los Angeles.)
Tila’s latest culinary venture, as Managing Partner, is The Charleston in Santa Monica, a nightlife hotspot and gastrolounge serving his imaginative take on American comfort food along with classic libations.
In 1999, Jet was awarded The Los Angeles Times Best Recipe of the Year for his Tom Yum soup and his Tom Kha Gai soup was named one of the Ten Best recipes of 2000. During the highly regarded Season 6 of Bravo’s “Top Chef” series which was set in Las Vegas Jet penned a popular weekly insider’s column chronicling “Top Chef” for Las Vegas Weekly.
The highlight of Jet’s active television career to date was his appearance on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” last year crossing knives with the winningest Iron Chef, Masaharu Morimoto, in “Battle Seaweed.” Morimoto’s “cuisine reigned supreme” by a mere four points is a very tight competition !
Jet’s drunken noodles were honored as “The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Chopsticks” by Giada De Laurentiis on Food Network’s “The Best Thing I ever Ate” series in 2011. When Travel Channel’s star culinary personality Anthony Bourdain profiled Los Angeles on the Emmy Award-winning “No Reservations” a few years back Tila escorted him on a tour of Thai Town.
Prior to the October 2012 launch of the “SoCal Restaurant Show” on AM 830 KLAA – The 50,000 Watt Home of Angels Baseball, Jet was a frequent and popular guest with host Evan Kleiman on her “Good Food” program heard on National Public Radio’s KCRW-FM (the flagship affiliate for Southern California.)
Chef Jet holds the certified Guinness World Records for the “World’s Largest Stirfry” at 4,010 pounds and “World’s Largest Seafood Stew” at 6,658 pounds (set on Labor Day 2012.)
When not cooking, Jet spends his time at home in Los Angeles with his wife, Allison and Border Collie, Rogue & Beagle, Molly.
The show runner for “The SoCal Restaurant Show” is veteran specialty radio show producer Andrew Harris who is also an accredited food, wine & travel journalist.
David Baronfeld, General Manager of AM 830 KLAA noted, “I’m eagerly anticipating “The SoCal Restaurant Show” because it will offer our listeners a fresh, fun, behind-the-scenes perspective with revealing insights from restaurant pros simply not heard anywhere else.”
AM 830 KLAA is a locally owned and operated 50,000 watt radio station serving Southern California. Since 2006 the station has been owned by Arte Moreno, the owner of the Angels baseball team, and serves as the flagship radio station for Angels Baseball.
