Anaheim, CA - Tuesday 7/28/2015 3:48 PM PDT - The Angels Tuesday acquired OF David DeJesus from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for RHP Eduar Lopez. In a separate deal, OF David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians was acquired in exchange for INF Eric Stamets. Today’s announcements were made by General Manager Bill Stoneman.
DeJesus, 35, is currently in his 13th Major League season and third with the Rays. For his career, he owns a .276 (1427/5164) average with 99 home runs and 569 RBI in 1442 career games with Kansas City (2003-2010), Oakland (2011), Chicago Cubs (2012-13), Washington (2013) and Tampa Bay (2013-15). In 82 games with the Rays this season, DeJesus is batting .259 (60/232) with five home runs and 26 RBI.
Murphy, 33, is currently in his 10th Major League season and was in his second campaign with the Indians. This season, he is batting .296 (61/206) with 22 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 27 RBI in 84 games with Cleveland, including a .344 OBP and .781 OPS. His best season came in 2012 when he posted a .304 clip (139/457), 65 runs, 29 doubles, three triples, 15 HR and 61 RBI. Murphy also posted a .380 OBP during the 2012 campaign.
