HISTORY OF AM830
KLAA AM830 went on the air on January 9, 1986 as KSRT, a Spanish language news station owned by a company headed by former NFL placekicker Danny Villanueva. It was licensed for 2,500 watts daytime and 1,000 watts nighttime.
In 1991 it was sold, changed to English language childrens programming, changed the call letters to KPLS and was known as "Radio Aahs".
1996 brought another change in ownership and a programming change, this time to Catholic faith oriented shows. The station was granted a power increase in 2000 to 50,000 watts daytime and 20,000 watts at night. The programming evolved to conservative talk.
New owners came in 2003, the programming changed to Spanish language talk and the call letters became KMXE.
LAA 1, LLC, a company controlled by Angels Baseball owner Arte Moreno purchased the station in early 2006, changed the call letters to the present KLAA and evolved the programming to English language live sports and sports talk. The English radio broadcast rights for Angels Baseball went to the station for the 2008 season.
The Sports Lodge show began on March 31, 2008. Travis Rodgers joined AM830 in January 2013 through February 2015 as AM830's new morning show host and the SportsLodge with Roger Lodge moved to afternoons leading up to Angels baseball broadcasts. Please see our Program Schedule for our current lineup.
Trent Schlom joined AM830 in 2015 providing sports updates and Angels Replay from 6 AM to Noon weekdays.
